UTICA, NY(WKTV) – Groundbreaking on a major housing project near Oneida Square in Utica took place Monday.
The Genesee Crossing neighborhood revitalization project will revitalize blighted and deteriorated buildings in three neighborhoods in the City of Utica. The project will provide 12 two-family residences and one three-story apartment building totaling 33 units of quality affordable housing.
One building, often referred to as ” The Castle,” was demolished earlier in July. The building sat vacant for decades.It’s being replaced by a three-story senior housing complex.
Four units will be fully adapted and accessible for people with impaired mobility.
Two units will be adapted for those who are hearing and vision impaired.
Five units are reserved for people who are homeless.

The total cost of the project is $4,406,578.
