Green award for housing enabler

Housing Visions Consultants based in Syracuse but serving several Central New York Communities–has won a New York Energy Star award for its energy-efficient housing.

Vice President Rebecca Newman says the roughly 400 units in the Syracuse area include Veterans’ Housing and the Maple Heights development on East Genesee on the cities east side. They’re installing water-saving shower heads, more energy-efficient light bulbs and fixtures, Energy Star appliances and other electricity-saving upgrades. Newman says that in addition to lowering bills, the improvements raise the quality of life for residents. Housing Visions’ ‘customers’ are low and moderate income families (a family of 4 must make less than $40,000/year to qualify).

NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research & Development Authority) recognized Housing Visions’ effort, and also awarded EnTech and Ryan Homes from Syracuse for their energy saving efforts.
