Winston Gaskin Homes is a scattered-site neighborhood preservation project that has substantially rehabilitated 20 buildings containing 66 units of affordable family rental housing with 20 units reserved for the special population of homeless victims of domestic violence and their families. The project is the preservation and upgrade of 5 of the first affordable housing developments of Housing Visions and provides permanent rental housing for very low and moderate income families.
The project location on the north and east side in the City of Syracuse is within one mile of major services, employers, schools and parks. Bus lines are all within 500 feet of every project address and all sites are within one half mile to grocery stores and pharmacies. The YWCA of Syracuse and Onondaga County, Inc. will provide services and programs to assist the 20 supportive housing residents. Services that are provided include but are not limited to: domestic violence and substance abuse counseling, access to the YWCA’s free clothing boutique—”My Sister’s Closet,” parenting and women’s empowerment groups, and job training support.
